Fall STEM classes for your future scientist! Preschool Prep Science, Robotics & Coding, Kitchen Chemistry, Engineering & Maker, 3D Printing & more! Ages 2-12. Trial Class Policy

Classes will begin the week of September 9 and finish the week of December 9.

No class September 30, October 1, 9, 14, 31, & November 4-8, 27, 28, 29.

Preschool Prep Science: Ages 2-4 with a caregiver

(Mondays at 10:30 am or Fridays at 10 am - NEW)

It’s time to experiment! Young children naturally love experimenting and discovering the world around them. In this preschool preparation class, children will conduct experiments and learn about science through early literacy and math activities in a preschool-like environment. This preschool prep program is perfect for children in a part time preschool program or children that are preparing to enter preschool.

Monday’s class runs September 9 - December 9 and costs $275 + tax.

No class Rosh Hashanah (9/30), Columbus Day (10/14), NJEA Teacher Conventions (11/4).

Friday’s class runs September 13 - December 13 and costs $300 + tax.

No class NJEA Convention (11/8) and Black Friday (11/29).

Children attend this class with a caregiver. Please email us at information@geniusgems.com if you are interested in the Monday class.

Engineering & Maker Class: Grades Pre-K-1st

(Fridays at 4:30 pm) - Sold out (sign up to be added to the waitlist)

Calling all makers and future engineers! Learn how to make LED paper circuit flowers, design and test your own egg drop device and build a motor bot!

This is a drop-off class.

Class runs September 13 - December 13 and costs $300 + tax.

No class NJEA Convention (11/8) and Black Friday (11/29).

 

Kitchen Chemistry: Ages 4-6

(Mondays at 4:00 pm; Thursdays at 10:45 am or 1:45 pm)

Calling all future chemists! Using everyday kitchen materials, children will conduct experiments and learn about chemical reactions. STEM activities will be different from the previous semester. This is a drop-off class.

Monday’s class runs September 9 - December 9 and costs $275 + tax.

Thursday’s class runs September 12 - December 12 and costs $275 + tax.

Med School STEM - Level 1: Grades Pre-K-1st

(Wednesdays at 3:45 pm)

Future doctors, learn about the human body and how it works! In this exciting course, students will engage in hands-on experiments to learn about how the different parts of the body work. Design balloon lungs, a pumping heart and a system of blood vessels. This is a drop-off class.


Class runs September 11 - December 11 and costs $275 + tax.

No class Yom Kippur (10/9), NJEA Teacher Convention (11/6), Thanksgiving Break (11/27).

 

Med School STEM - Level 2: Grades 2-4

(Wednesdays at 4:45 pm)

Future doctors, learn about the biology of the human body, and take an in-depth look into how the human body functions. What happens to our bodies when we have a fever? How does your body heal when you fall? Med students will engage in hands-on projects and experiments to gain an understanding of how the different systems of our body work. This is a drop-off class.


Class runs September 11 - December 11 and costs $275 + tax.

Robotics & Coding - Level 1: Grades K-2

(Tuesdays at 3:30 pm or Thursdays at 4:00 pm)

(Thursday is full, please email us to check Tuesday availability)

In this introduction to robotics and coding, students will learn tools and concepts related to computer science. Using color codes for Ozobots, robots Dash and Dot, Cubetto and coding with Scratch Jr, students will explore robotics and coding through games, while also learning specific computer science concepts and reinforcing math skills, such as counting and number recognition. Students will also be introduced to loops and functions, practicing pattern recognition, comparing groups, and answering and solving complex problems.

Tuesday’s class runs September 10 - December 10 and costs $300 + tax.

Thursday’s class runs September 12 - December 12 and costs $275 + tax.

Robotics & Coding - Level 2: Grades 3-5

(Tuesdays at 4:30 pm - 3 spots left)

In Level II Coding, students will learn how to code as a tangible tool to explore how programming can affect the physical world. Students will create complex stories and design their own games using the MIT designed programming tool, Scratch. This allows students to have access to a much larger library of code blocks and a community where they can share their creations. Student will learn about variables, events, parallelism, remixing, and other valuable computer science concepts. In addition to Scratch, students will have a chance to learn coding through other hands-on tools such as Sphero and LEGO Mindstorm.

Class runs September 10 - December 10 and costs $300 + tax.

Engineering & Design Studio (with 3D Printing): Grade 3-6

(Wednesdays 4:15 pm)

Calling all engineers and designers! Learn about the engineering design process, as well as an introduction to 3D printing and design! Through a series of engineering projects, students will build and design prototypes, and create 3D printed pieces using our 3D printing software and printers. Activities will be different than the previous session.

South Mountain STEM - Robotics & Coding - Level 1: Grades K-2

Genius Gems staff will pick up students from South Mountain Elementary School in Millburn at 3:00 pm and bring them to Genius Gems for a STEM Program until 4:15 pm.

Option for open play and homework help until 5:15 pm will cost an additional $156 + tax for the entire session.

Genius Gems staff will pick up students from South Mountain Elementary School in Millburn at 3:00 pm and bring them to Genius Gems for homework help and open play until the beginning of class at 4:30 pm. Class will be held from 4:30-5:15. Please pick up your child from Genius Gems at 5:15.

Class runs September 10 - December 10 and costs $456 + tax.

Coding Girls: Grades 3-6

(Thursdays at 5:00 PM)

Historically, women have been underrepresented in STEM careers. Coding Girls at Genius Gems is trying to bridge that gap! At Genius Gems, coding is fun! Through hands on coding tools such as Scratch, Java, Sphero, Lego Mindstorm and more! Girls will work in teams to design their own games, code robots and address real world challenges using coding. Prior coding experience is not required. This is a drop-off class.

Class runs September 12 - December 12 and costs $275 + tax.

No class Halloween (10/31), NJEA Teacher Convention (11/7), Thanksgiving Day (11/28).

 

Space Engineers: Ages 4-6

(Fridays at 3:30 pm)

NASA aficionados! Do you love learning about the planets, the quest to colonize Mars and space travel? Take your passion for the solar system one step further in this fun and exciting space engineering course, designed to help children think and problem solve. Engineers will work in teams to test “rockets,” learn about propulsion and gravity, and design space-approved inventions for tomorrow! This is a drop-off class.

Homeschool Robotics + Drop-in Building!

Students will learn an introduction to robotics and engineering in this exciting and hands on class. Siblings are welcome for drop-in play while their older siblings are in class. Email us at information@geniusgems.com if you’re interested in joining.
